The Zionist Congress Court, composed of five judges, today denied any mandates to the General Zionist and the Mizrachi Parties in Israel which boycotted the elections of delegates to the Congress. In its verdict the court said: “One cannot profit by boycotting elections.” It added that it was the duty of the two parties as Zionist bodies, to participate in the elections and fight from within the Congress for a change in the electoral system.
The Congress Court also decided to reduce the number of Israel delegates to the Congress from 206 to 185 because of “certain irregularities in the elections.” Under today’s ruling, the Mapai will have 93 delegates; the Mapam will have 41; the Mizrachi Laborites 23; the Herat 17; the Progressives 10, and the Zionist Revisionist group led by Meir Grossman, 1.
