The 56th annual encampment of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America opened here last night with a report by Brig. Gen. Julius Klein of Chicago, chairman of the J.W.V. national defense committee, and with messages from President Truman and General Douglas MacArthur lauding the organization for its service to the nation.

The President said that “there has never been a time in the history of our nation when it was more imperative for the American people to demonstrate their traditional unity of purpose in safeguarding the liberty, freedom and justice which has been our proud heritage.” General MacArthur’s message declared that the “enemies of freedom” who incite racial and religious animosities “must be recognized in the light of their evil design and hurled back as immoral and anti-American.”
