President Truman was asked today by volunteer American displaced person resettlement agencies to have the State Department convene an early meeting of nations with refugees and receiving countries to make plans for the handling of refugees after the International Refugee Organization terminates its operation.
The President indicated concern over the continued operation of an international program for the resettlement of displaced persons and surplus populations after the expiration of the I.R.O. Among those who met at the White House with Mr. Truman was Arthur Greenleigh, chairman of the advisory committee of American national volunteer agencies and executive director of the United Service for New Americans which cares for Jewish refugees. Others who participated were Displaced Persons Commission chairman John W. Gibson and resettlement directors of Catholic and Protestant agencies.
