Vice President Alben Barkley warned last night that “those who seek to create a caste, a sort of classism on account of birth, are just as subversive to the interests of democracy, as those who would destroy our government through force and violence.” The Vice President spoke at a dinner of the furniture industry and allied trades in behalf of the Joint Defense Appeal.
He condemned “any group of alleged superiors who arrogate to themselves all the rights that are supposed to be incumbent upon a democracy” and said that the JDA agencies were seeking to lay the foundations for a greater and better America.
