The laxity of city officials in coping with race tensions in the Boston area was cited here at the “exploratory” meeting of social workers, national agency representatives, religious leaders and other leaders sponsored by the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Boston.
It was pointed out by Robert E. Segal, executive director of the Council, that although a number of interested agencies have taken a number of constructive steps towards coping with the problems of anti-Semitism and other racial tensions, Boston is a decade behind other large cities in its grasp of the dynamics and realities of modern frictions between groups. Close to a score of anti-Semitic incidents have been reported to the Council and the A.D.L. in the 11-month period ending August 30.
