Rapid development of the press of Israel since the establishment of the state is noted in the fourth survey of the world press published here today by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
In a special chapter on Israel the survey notes that the number and circulation of daily newspapers and periodicals in Israel has increased by 50 percent since 1945 and forecasts future circulation increases. The 17 daily newspapers now published in Israel have a total circulation of 248,400, according to the survey. Of this total, the 11 Hebrew dailies have 180,600. The survey notes that Israel produces no newsprint and is entirely dependent on imports.
