Shanghai Authorities Order Refugees to Emigrate

Download PDF for this date

Shanghai authorities have instructed all Jewish refugees in the city who have been unable to make the necessary economic adjustment, to prepare to emigrate to other countries, it was reported here today by HIAS, on the basis of a cable received from the Jewish Community Council in Shanghai.

About 2,000 Jews remain now in Shanghai and most of them have been unable to integrate themselves in the economy of the city after its occupation by the Communists. Isaac L. A sofsky, executive director of HIAS, today cabled Jewish leaders in Shanghai to ascertain the immigration desires for the affected Jews so that the HIAS can start working to obtain entry permits from countries of desired immigration.
