The delegate assembly of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington adopted five major recommendations based on the MacIver Report evaluating the activities of Jewish groups engaged in combatting anti-Semitism.
The recommendations urge the establishment of an overall strategy committee by the Jewish defense agencies, the setting up of an inter-agency research committee, a division of labor among the national Jewish defense agencies, the primacy of local Community Relations Councils, and increased authority for the National Community Relations Advisory Council, the co-ordinating body of the defense agencies.
A recommendation to establish a central fund for all national Jewish defense agencies was not approved at the assembly, but a substitute recommending further study on the subject of such defense agency financing was passed with only a few dissenting votes. While based on the MacIver Report, the resolutions were the product of two full joint meetings of the Community Council’s executive committee and the Community Relations Council.
