Dr. Boris Surowich, overseas representative of ORT, has retired after 25 years of service with the organization, it was announced today. He will leave this week-end for a year’s holiday in Buenos Aires where he will continue ORT work in a volunteer capacity. He will remain a member of the central board of the World ORT Union.
Dr. Surowich was active in ORT in Russia and in 1920 was elected delegate of all Russian Jewish organizations to the Joint Distribution Committee. He was named JDC delegate to Russia but was forced to flee the country. He has toured the world for ORT and first introduced the organization in India, Venezuela, Ecuador, Cuba and Turkey. Two years ago, he established the basis for ORT’s present operations in Iran.
A farewell luncheon was tendered Dr. Surowich by leaders of American ORT under the chairmanship of David Rosenstein.
