Israel’s Ambassador Abba Eban, speaking here before an audience of close to 1,000 persons at the first annual lecture sponsored by the American Friends of the Hebrew University, cited the fact that unless Israel’s homogeneous population, which will have tripled during the next five year, can be integrated both culturally and economically, the national freedom of the Jewish State would not be fully realized.
“It is the responsibility of the Hebrew University,” he declared, “to re-animate and revitalize the Hebrew language which alone can bind together emigrants from all over the world. “He spoke of the great difficulties the University has undergone since operating away from its campus on Mount Scopus and called for the immediate construction of a new University center in the western part of Jerusalem.
