Britain Turns Down Egyptian Offer of Military Base at Gaza

British Foreign Office officials have informed the Egyptian authorities that Britain must reject the Egyptian offer of a base in the Gaza strip instead of the Suez Canal zone, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned here today. After an intensive study, a special committee set up by the British military chiefs ruled out the area as a practical solution of the problem of a military-naval base close to the Canal area.
