Interest in Jewish life, particularly in the sphere of religious education, is widespread among American Jews. Tel Aviv Chief Rabbi Isar J. Unterman declared here last night. Speaking before 3,000 people at Carnegie Hall at a meeting sponsored by the Greater New York Committee for State of Israel Bonds, Br. Unterman reported that he had also found during his current visit to the United States that American Jews are “profoundly interested” in the upbuilding of Zionism and the welfare of the Jewish State.
The greatest growth in Israel since its establishment as an independent state has been “in the spiritual revival that has taken place.” Rabbi Unterman declared. He added that Israel “is destined to play a historic role as a powerful spiritual force for world peace and brotherhood.” He also called for support of the Israel bond drive in this country, pointing out that “it is impossible to build a modern country without capital” and that this capital must be provided by American Jewry.
