Jerusalem’s Mayor Shlomo Z. Shragai launched “Hebrew Month” in the United States last night at special ceremonies held here. Observation of “Hebrew Month”–from March 10 through April 10–is designed to draw the attention of American Jewry to the progress and achievements of the Hebrew movement in this country.

Mayor Shragai expressed “justifiable pride” that Jerusalem was the site where the “miracle of the rebirth of Hebrew” as a modern, living language took place after 2,000 years. Samuel J. Borowsky, president of the Histadrut Ivrith of America, revealed that during the month over 10,000 schools, synagogues and other Jewish institutions throughout the U.S. will engage in special activities highlighting the importance of the Hebrew language, culture and traditions.
