Bonn Government to Present Indemnification Law to Parliament

Download PDF for this date

The Adenauer Government will shortly propose a law to Parliament for the Federal Government to pay indemnification to victims of the Nazis, it was learned here today in government circles.

These circles stated that the draft to be presented would be in opposition to a proposal made by the opposition Social Democratic Party. It is understood that the government draft will recognize the principle that all persons persecuted for political, racial or religious reasons will be considered to have served the interests of the state and the German people by being in opposition to the Nazis, and therefore are entitled to indemnification.

From Frankfurt it was reported that more than 40,000 applications for indemnification for damages suffered under the Hitler regime have been received by the Hesse Government.
