The New England regional office of the American Jewish Congress has submitted to the New Hampshire legislative council a draft for legislation to outlaw discrimination in resorts of that state, Attorney Abraham T. Alper, president of the region, announced.
The draft was prepared by Attorney Gerald A. Berlin, director of the region’s commission on law and social action. The legislative council is expected to study the proposed legislation in view of introducing it in the 1953 session of the state legislature.
For some time there has been wholesale discrimination in New Hampshire resorts. In the resort area of Hampton Beach there is an owners’ covenant whereby Jews are being kept out of the beach area and find it almost impossible to either buy or rent summer cottages.
