Dr. Israel Brodie, Chief Rabbi of the British Empire, today sent the following Rosh Hashanah message to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency:
“Greetings for the New Year to the directors and vigilant staff of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency and to all its subscribers of many lands. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency service emphasizes the unity and common interests of the Jews all over the world. In consequence, local events and problems can be seen in a wider perspective and given a fitting significance.
“It is natural that news and views of the State of Israel should take priority of reportage in the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. I am glad to note that the features of the daily life of the Jewish communities are given due prominence in depicting the global Jewish scene. Alas, that the Jewish Telegraphic Agency is not yet able to bring full and continuous tidings of the communities forcibly sundered from us.
“May the New Year bring us heartening intelligence ‘from the beginning of the year to the end of the year’ of our peaceful and prosperous communities spiritually strengthened and culturally enriched. More especially do we look forward to acceptable reports of the State of Israel, its economic burdens lightened, its security assured, its hostile neighbors less unrelenting, and above all its spiritual purpose and lofty mission more widely recognized within and without its borders.”
