Extension of Competence of Rabbinical Courts Demanded in Israel

A resolution demanding that the Israel Government extend the judicial competence of rabbinical courts to settling monetary problems by arbitration was adopted here today at the conclusion of a two-day rabbinical conference.

It is understood that the government is preparing new legislation for the purpose of normalizing relations between the rabbinical courts and the civil courts. The jurisdiction of both court systems will be clearly defined by the new laws. The Mizrachi organization has demanded that not only should marriage and divorce problems be within the competence of the rabbinical courts but also problems concerning alimony and inheritance.
