The conclusion of an agreement between the Government of Israel and the Provisional Intergovernmental Committee for the Movement of Migrants from Europe for the Jewish State to assist in the resettlement in Israel of 2,000 new European Jewish refugees before the end of 1952, was reported today to a meeting of delegates from 20 nations represented on the Committee.
The Committee was organized last December and it was hoped that the organization would be able to arrange the transfer of 100,000 refugee immigrants in 1952. The meeting today was told that 63,000 had been moved in the first eight months of the operation. It is expected that the Committee will be forced to abandon its program because of the recent cuts in immigration programs in Australia and Canada and the inability of Latin American countries to take large numbers of refugees.
