Secretary of State Acheson Sends Message of Condolence to Israel

Secretary of State Dean Acheson today sent the following message to Israeli Acting President Joseph Sprinzak: “Please accept my sincere condolences upon the death of President Weizmann. The news of his passing has been received by this government and Americans throughout the country with deep sorrow. As a founder of his country. President Weizmann’s courage and resolve were an inspiration to his people.”

Sen. Herbert H. Lehman eulogized President Weizmann as a “world statesman” and “father of his country.” Sen. Lehman said the Israel President “goes down in history not only as a gallant battler for the idea of Israel but as the father of his country, the Republic of Israel,”
