The merger of the Jewish Morning Journal, daily Yiddish newspaper which has been in existence for 52 years, with The Day, was announced here today. Beginning Monday, the Morning Journal will discontinue publication and a new paper, known as The Day-Morning Journal, will appear under the editorial direction of Solomon Dingol, editor of The Day. The newspaper will be published from The Day plant.
In a statement issued today by Morris Weinberg, publisher of the merged newspaper, it was emphasized that out of respect for Orthodox readers, the paper will not appear on Saturday. On that day The Day alone will be published. It is understood that Mr. Weinberg paid $150,000 for the Morning Journal and that the merger has been approved by Judge Sidney Sugarman of the Southern District Federal Court who directed the affairs of the bankrupt Morning Journal. Part of the money will go for severance pay to members of the Morning Journal staff who will lose their jobs. About 15 of the 30 members of the editorial staff of the Morning Journal will be employed on the merged paper.
