JERUSALEM (Jun. 8)
A meeting of leaders of the United Jewish Appeal and the Israel Bond Drive in the United States will take place in Jerusalem in the near future to prepare for representative Jewish gatherings in the Fall, it was announced at a press conference here today by Finance Minister Levi Eshkol, who has just returned from a visit to the United States.
Mr. Eshkol said that the Israel Government is determined to continue the sale of bonds in the hope that “Jewry will respond fully” to the campaign. However, he added that “the shape and conditions of the bond campaign will be mutually decided upon.”
“We have to press home to American Jewry the urgent necessity for greater endeavors and increased contributions through the United Jewish Appeal and Israel Bond Drive to speed Israel’s economic and financial consolidation,” Mr. Eshkol stated. He indicated that plans are now under discussion for the establishment of a “supreme public body” to coordinate and manage the financial endeavors conducted by Jews throughout the world on behalf of Israel.
