A copy of the first edition of the Bible to be produced by a Jewish scholar and printed in Israel was presented here to Dr. Joshua Bloch, chief of the Jewish Division of the New York Public Library, by Joseph. M. Mazer, general chairman of the 1953 Greater New York campaign of the American Friends of the Hebrew University, and Bernard Cherrick, director general of the Board of Governors of the University, at a ceremony held at the main library.

The Bible text was prepared by the world-famous authority on Biblical research, the late Professor Moshe David Cassuto of the University faculty, and issued by the University-Magnes Press.
