Jacob Blaustein, president of the American Jewish Committee, arrived here this morning from Vienna where he participated in the inauguration of the formal negotiations with the Austrian Government on the settlement of Jewish material claims against Austria.

Mr. Blaustein said he believed that “the Austrian Government leaders will give serious consideration” to the claims made by the leading Jewish organizations. “It is our earnest hope, “he stated, “that the negotiations will bring about a satisfactory settlement of these claims and thus right–insofar as that is physically possible–some of the great wrongs committed against the Jews of Austria.

“We trust that the Austrian people and state, expecting justice for themselves and a rightful place in the community of nations, will take the present opportunity to do justice to the claims of the Jewish victims of Nazism, ” he declared.
