Trade between the United States and Israel exceeds $100,000,000 per year, it was reported today by the Jewish Agency here. While Israel’s trade balance with the United States has been slowly improving, the Jewish State still imports seven times as much from the U.S. as it sells here. Israel’s exports to the United States have doubled in dollar value during the past three years, reaching $12,000,000 in 1952, according to the Agency.
Dr. E.A. Lewin, commercial attaché of the Israel Embassy, today said that United States grant-in-aid and Export-Import Bank loans to Israel have increased the productive capacity of Israel’s industry. He predicted strong growth prospects, particularly in the fields of textiles, fashion goods, metals and chemicals.
Commenting on this development, Mrs. Rose L. Halprin, Jewish Agency executive member in charge of the Economic Department in New York, said; “A countrywide drive is under way to capitalize on industry’s increasing production. An all-out effort to build up export sales, particularly to the United States, has been launched Business leaders, the Histadrut and the government is actively cooperating in this drive.”
