An announcement that India will definitely not withdraw its recognition from Israel, today drew severe criticism by leaders of the Arab League in Cairo who declared that “the Arab feelings have been badly hurt by this statement.” The statement was made by Premier Pandit Jawaharial Nehru of India.

A report from Cairo received here quoted Ahmed Shukairy, Assistant Secretary of the Arab League, as expressing “regret” that Israel is still permitted to continue its existence. He said he hoped that “the renaissance which began in Arab countries would make possible in the near future the return of Palestine to its rightful owners.”
