A “new era” of harmony and unity among all elements in American Jewry supporting Israel, particularly between the United Jewish Appeal and the Israel Bond Organization, was proclaimed jointly by Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, executive vice-chairman of the UJA, and Henry Montor, executive vice-chairman of the Bond Organization, at a press conference here today.

Dr. Schwartz declared that the deliberations of the current economic conference here against the background of recent political developments had “assumed a new light and an important rising in the spirit of unity from which new actions spring up.”

In almost identical words, Mr. Montor stressed that all divergencies must be subordinated to the “supreme necessity of aiding Israel to achieve economic independence” without which, he warned, political independence cannot be gained.

The outlook for fund-raising in the United States through the UJA was outlined here last night by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, Jewish Agency chairman, to a meeting of the Agency. He also reported on the political situation in the United States as it affects Israel and on current developments in the American Zionist movement, dwelling on preparations for the forthcoming American Zionist Assembly in New York.
