Police in the German town of Witten have announced the re-arrest of Paul Werner Poppe, former S. S. major and war criminal, who was arrested once before but escaped.
Poppe, one-time commandant of a Nazi concentration camp at Stutthof, near Danzig, is charged with having gassed or hanged a large number of camp inmates. The prosecution has assembled 90 statements by witnesses of Poppe’s actions.
