Brazilian-Israeli Cultural Institute Opened in Rio De Janeiro

A Brazilian-Israeli Cultural Institute to stimulate the exchange of cultural programs between the two countries, was opened here today at a ceremony in the offices of the Foreign Ministry. It was attended by diplomatic representatives from many countries.

The ceremony, at which prominent Brazilian writers and scientists were present, was addressed by Foreign Minister Vincente Rao who emphasized the contribution which Jews in Brazil have made to the development of the country. Other speakers included Senator Hamilton Nogueria, president of the Institute; Dr. Pedro Calmon, Rector of the University of Brazil, and Gen. David Shaltiel, Israel Minister to Brazil.
