Rather than face the possibility of protracted legislation over the constitutionality of a proposed ordinance which would require consent of the village board before a building could be converted to educational or religious use, the North Pelham board of trustees has voted to shelve the measure.
Opponents of the measure charged that it had been introduced to forestall establishment of a Jewish center in North Pelham. A new measure to provide for re-zoning of the village “to protect the character of residential areas” will be introduced.
