The CIO today urged President Eisenhower to outlaw the use of federal funds in all private or public housing projects which fail to bar religious and racial segregation.

In a letter to the White House the CIO warned that unless steps were taken at once a pattern of segregation in housing “will become crystallized upon such a vast scale as to negate the benefits of recent decisions of the U. S. Supreme Court.” The letter was signed jointly by CIO president Walter P. Reuther and CIO vice -president James G. Thimmes.
