A stunting airplane today crashed into an outdoor crowd of 2, 000 persons attending a ceremony at Maagan, near Lake Kinneret. Preliminary reports estimate at least 13 dead and not less than 25 injured. The crowd included Premier Moshe Sharett, who escaped injury.
The crowd had gathered to pay honor to Jewish parachutists killed by Nazis, when a light single-engine “Piper Cub,” doing aerial acrobatics over the assemblage, went out of control and plunged into the throng. Witnesses said the planes engine stalled. Ambulances were called from nearby communities, while Army medical units rushed to the scene from as far off as Tel Aviv.
