Israel to Get Wheat from Canada; 10,000 Tons Shipped to Haifa

Israel has contracted to purchase 225,000 metric tons of wheat from Canada during the current “crop year” ending July 31, 1955, it was announced here today. The announcement said that about 10,000 tons of wheat consigned to the Government of Israel left the Canadian port of Vancouver last week, and is now on its way to Haifa.

A number of shipments of grain for Israel was previously arranged by the Canada-Israel Corporation, which was set up last year by the Canadian Jewish Congress and the Zionist Organization of Canada, to promote trade between Canada and Israel. Samuel Bronfman of Montreal is president, and Edward E. Gelber of Toronto is vice-president of the corporation,
