The Israel branch of the Human Rights League has approached the Charge d’Affaires of the Czech Legation here with a request that an Israeli lawyer be allowed to go to Prague to visit Mordecai Oren, Israeli leftist leader who was sentenced to 15 years in jail during the Slansky trials, it was learned here today.
The League also asked to make an appeal, in Oren’s behalf, against the sentence. The Czech official said that since Mr. Oren had pleaded guilty there was no way for the League to appeal against the sentence. However, he suggested that the lawyer apply for his visa and when he got to Prague he might approach the Minister of Justice on the matter. The visa application was made subsequently, it was learned today, but no action has yet been taken by the Czechs.
