Three hundred thousand Israeli students returned to elementary and secondary school classrooms today as schools throughout the Jewish State reopened after the summer vacation. Some 12, 000 teachers were on duty.

For the first time in two decades, a completely new and modernized curriculum has been introduced on the elementary and secondary school levels. The new curriculum has been in preparation for the past two years.

The elementary school population has increased some 20,000 over last year. However, enrollment in kindergartens, high schools and vocational training schools has dropped.
