The necessity of safeguarding civil rights in the United States was stressed here last night at the 10th annual conference of the Metropolitan Council of B’nai B’rith. A scroll commemorating her efforts in behalf of preserving “American ideals of civil rights, freedom and liberty” was presented to Mrs. Helen Rogers Reid, chairman of the board of the New York Herald Tribune. Some 1,100 persons attended the parley.

Municipal Court Justice David A. Rose of Dorchester, Mass., president of District 1 of B’nai B’rith, which embraces New England, New York State and eastern Canada, warned that Arab propaganda was being used to instill distrust of Israel in Americans. He charged that the Arab propagandists were attempting to spread anti-Jewish prejudice in the U.S. with the purpose of “separating the American Jewish community from the American community. ” He called on B’nai B’rith members to combat this Arab campaign.
