Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt refused yesterday to make a scheduled address before a club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, because she had been informed that the club discriminated against Jews and Negroes.
Mrs. Roosevelt had been invited to address the Alexander Hamilton Club of Lancaster in connection with the celebration of Brotherhood Week. However, the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League referred to Mrs. Roosevelt reports that the club discriminated in its membership practices. The club last night denied the discrimination charges.
