The Agudas Israel movement in this country rejected today charges by the Board of Deputies of British Jews that it was partly responsible for the breakdown in year-long negotiations among British Jewish organizations on coordinating their approaches to the British Government on matters dealing with foreign affairs.
In a statement, the Agudah declared that no single Jewish organization, on a national or international level, is in a position to represent the different Jewish viewpoints. The Agudah rejected the idea that a “secular Jewish body, influenced in a considerable measure by nationalist views” has the “exclusive and unconditional right to speak for Anglo-Jewry.” In a call for the formation of a joint consultative committee of Jewish organizations, the Agudah statement declared: “We ask for unity, not totalitarian uniformity.”
