The text of the agreement providing for the forthcoming merger of the Trades and Labor Congress of Canada and the Canadian Congress of Labor, Canadian affiliates of the AFL and CIO, will include a provision dealing with human rights and protection against discrimination, the joint advisory committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress and the Jewish Labor Committee has been informed. The clause reads:

“The fundamental rights of all workers, regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin, to share fully in the benefits of trade union organizations shall be established within the constitution of the new merged Congress. In recognition of its significance and importance to the nation and the labor movement, the principle of unremitting enmity to discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed, or national origin, wherever it may be found, shall also be contained within the Constitution of the new merged Congress. Effective machinery will be established to combat discrimination and promote a constructive program in the field of human rights.”
