President Eisenhower’s action in calling for immediate amendment of the Refugee Relief Act was commended today by the American Jewish Congress. At the same time the organization voiced disappointment that the President’s message was limited solely to refugee relief and “silent about the long overdue revision of the McCarran-Walter Act.”
These views were expressed by Dr. Israel Goldstein, AJC president, at the two-day joint meeting of the national executive and administrative committees of the organization held here. More than 150 AJC leaders from various parts of the country attended the sessions.
