A Mutual Security pact between the United States and Israel is the “prime necessity” in assuring peace in the Middle East, Max Kopstein, chairman of the National Administrative Committee of the American Jewish Congress, told newsmen today upon his return to the United States after a two-month trip to Israel and the Near East.

Mr. Kopstein told the press during an interview aboard the S.S. United States that the Israelis feel completely isolated. “There is no question that the apparent lack of support by the United States and other Western nations and the fact that the West appears to be courting Arab favor, has emboldened Arab leaders to increase their threats to Israel to step up their policy of economic and political harassment of this small democratic bulwark in the Near East,” he asserted.
