Despite assurances of nationalist leader Habib Bourguiba of “equality for all Tunisians,” there is a growing movement toward the boycott of Jewish shops in the souks of Tunis. Jewish shopkeepers have noted a falling off in the number of their Moslem customers. This threat to the livelihood of the Jewish traders is laid to nationalist accusations that the Jews have not sufficiently demonstrated their pleasure at Bourguiba’s return, and to the continuing emigration of Tunisian Jews.

At the same time, it was disclosed that an ever-growing number of anti-Israel pamphlets are being sent to Tunisian Moslems from Egypt. The pamphlets come through the mails. French police authorities here are said to be conducting an investigation of the source of the pamphlets.
