Dr. Jose Gorge Granados, Guatemala’s first Ambassador to Israel, presented his credentials today to Israel President Itzhak Ben Zvi. Accepting the documents, the President recalled Dr. Granados important contributions to the United Nations decision to establish the Jewish State.
Dr. Granados, who formerly served his country as chief delegate to the UN, expressed his great pleasure with the tremendous strides made by Israel in the seven years of its existence. He told the President that Guatemalans were deeply interested in Israel’s development. Later, at a press conference, Dr. Granados said that while his country was chiefly interested in cultural ties with Israel, he would also attempt to establish “some symbolic trade relations.”
Meanwhile, Guatemala has accepted Eric Heineman as Israel Charge d’Affaires in Guatemala City. The Ambassador, Dr. Joseph Kessary, will reside in Mexico City.
