After ten years of service to American military personnel stationed in Germany, the Jewish Welfare Board Center in this university town which is also headquarters of the U.S. Army in Europe, has closed its doors. The building is being returned to the German student fraternity from which it was originally requisitioned.
The many-faceted program of the center will, however, not be abandoned, It is being shifted to Kaiserslautern, the hub of the greatest concentration of American military strength in Germany. Aaron Grodsky, for the past several years JWB representative for Germany, will remain in charge.
The center, opened early in 1946 by the Jewish Welfare Board, has been a “home away from home” for literally thousands of GI’s, officers and civilian employees of the armed forces. In addition to serving their spiritual needs, it sponsored a variegated recreational program.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
