An appeal to Jewish students throughout the world to “build a living bridge” between Israel and the Jewish communities of other countries was voiced here today at the international Jewish student congress being held here, by Prof. Michael, vice-president of the Hebrew University. Once the Jewish students have “crossed the bridge.” Prof. Evenari said, “they must use their abilities to help the state solve its spiritual, economic and religious problems.”
George Rosenstein, chairman of the World Union of Jewish Students, told the congress that Jewish youth outside Israel was moving in the direction of assimilation. One of the Union’s major goals, he continued, is to reverse this trend. The conference is attended by representatives of Jewish student groups in 13 countries and by representatives of eight student groups in this country. The only non-Jewish student attending is Ichrio One, a Japanese student who has the status of observer for the International Union of Students–a leftist organization.
