Discussions of plans for leadership training for young American Jews, the possibilities of professional careers in Jewish communal service and the implications of military service for young men and women are occupying the spotlight at the eighth annual assembly of the National Youth Conference sponsored by the National Jewish Welfare Board. The conference is being attended by representatives of some 300 local and regional Jewish youth and young adult councils with a total membership in excess of 300,000.
Dr. Judah J. Shapiro, an official of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany in a major address to the conference warned yesterday that American Jews must not isolate themselves from their fellow Jews in other parts of the world. He asserted that at the very time when American Jews are most concerned about the physical welfare of Jews abroad they are losing contact with the common historical and spiritual ties which bound them to Jews everywhere.
