A decision to launch a special six-week drive to raise $10,000,000 to help transfer 10,000 Moroccan Jews to Israel was adopted here today by the national officers of the United Jewish appeal who met to hear a report on the situation of Moroccan Jews and Israel from Rabbi Herbert A Friedman executive vice-chairman of the UJA. Rabbi Friedman returned last week from a 40-day tour of North Africa Israel and other overseas points.

To insure the success of this special cash drive, the UJA stop national officers and its 54-member national cabinet will visit more than 300 leading American Jewish communities during the next month and half Sol Luckman of Cincinnati national cash chairman of the UJA will head the 60-day “crash program”

Pointing out that success of this drive with enable the transfer within the first weeks of the coming Jewish year of half as many men, women and children from North Africa as had been brought to Israel during the previous year. UJA general chairman William Rosenwald said that the cost of transportation and mitial settlement of each immigrant would come to $1,000.

“The people of Israel” Mr. Rosenwald declared “already have sacrificed and strained themselves to the limit to build up the new nation and to absorb the hundreds of thousands who have stormed in sine 1948 They stand ready to make new sacrifices in behalf of the present mounting influx of Jews from North Africa with the government already calling for an increase in import duties to help pay their share of the costs of increased immigration Unless the Jews of America maintain a faithful partnership in this life-saving endeavor there could be tragic consequences, including a sharp reversal in Israel’s economy.”
