Jakob Goldschmidt, international financier, art collector and philanthropist, died at his home here Friday. He was born in Germany in 1882 and came to this country in 1936.
A target of the Nazis even before they came to power, in 1933 Mr. Goldschmidt left Germany — where he had become one of the most successful financiers and leaders of industry — and spent three years in various European capitals before coming to the United States and becoming a citizen in 1944. Active in the Jewish community of Germany, Mr. Goldschmidt financed the publication of Encyclopedia Judaica, the first Jewish encyclopedia in the German language.
