Although the people of Israel are deeply disturbed by Egypt’s acquiring arms from the Soviet bloc and by Egyptian provocations in the Gaza area, there is no panic in Israel, Beba Idelson, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and general secretary of Israel’s Working Women’s Council, declared at a press conference here today.
Mrs. Idelson, who arrived here to participate in the convention of the Pioneer Women which will open in Toronto on October 23, said: “Work in Israel goes on as usual and thousands of immigrants, 4,000 to 6,000 monthly largely from Morocco, are gladly welcomed. Comprised mostly of large families, the bulk of the newcomers are speeded from ship to new settlements. The continuing favorable reports from Huleikat in the Negev on the recent oil discovery has fire the people with hope for a major source of economic strength. Drilling is now going on in Beeri in the Dead Sea region.”
