The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York will have raised $16,500,000 by the close of its fiscal year next September, a sum which represents a minimum increase of $1,000,000 over what was raised last year, Salim L. Lewis, president of the Federation, reported this week-end at the organization’s 38th annual meeting.

The sum raised will permit the affiliated agencies of the Federation to operate, for the first time in five years, without incurring a major deficit, Mr. Lewis reported. He said that this year’s contributions had come from 110,000 persons, setting a new record for number of contributors as well as for the total of contributions. Never before has the Federation reached 100,000 contributors in a single year.
