U.j.a., Eulogizes Sen. Barkley; Hadassah to Plant Trees in His Honor

The role which Senator Alben W. Barkley, who died last week, played in American Jewish life, was emphasized today in a message of condolence sent to his widow by William Rosenwald, general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal. At the same time, the national board of Hadassah voted today to plant grove of 100 trees in Israel in Sen. Barkley’s memory.

“Sent Barkley will be particularly missed by the American Jewish community, for he gave invaluable support to the campaigns of the United Jewish Appeal on behalf of the survivors of the Nazi holocause and thousands of other victims of oppression,” Mr. Rosen wald said in his message. “His consistent championship aided in the re-birth of the Land of Israel and helped immeasurably in developing the State of Israel as an outpost of freedom and a haven for the homeless.”
